FINN ladies in NG
This photo was given to me by cousin Barb. The only ladies I could identify is Mrs. Aho and Mrs. Neimi. The second lady from the left is Mrs. Aho. The third lady (way in the back) is Mrs. Neimi. Mrs. Neimi lived across the road from the Hakanens. Mrs Aho and her family lived on the land adjoining Grandpa Hakanen's property. The way I got the photo is another "web" story. I responded to a general request sent to the Nanty-Glo web site. It was from a niece of Mrs. A ho's sister. The sister was elderly and told about her sister going to America and marrying there, but not knowing what her married name was. She was asking for any information to relate to her aunt. I shared the info with Barb and she sent me the photo. Also I had a picture of the Voima baseball team (see the pictures in this album). Two of Mrs. Aho's sons were on the team. They were Harry and Hubart. I sent this photo and the Voima picture to the niece. She was elated. She saw family resemblances in the pictures and was pleased to find Mrs. Aho's married name. The entire Aho family are gone now. Harry was the last. He became a teacher and married a local girl but the marriage ended in divorce. He then took up teaching American schools through the military services. He remarried, a woman from Japan, and I believe I met the couple once. They stayed in touch with my uncle Ernie who was about the same age as Harry. Working on this web site has led to many interesting stories like this. I'll try to relate as many as I can. This photo was taken long before I was born. But the lady on the right is Mrs. Lustila and I remember John Lustila who lived in a small shanty up the road on the way to Finntown ball field. The lady was probably his wife. I never thought of him as a widower but I bet he was. Another coincidence is that years later Mimi and I lived in Level Green, near Trafford Pa. Our back yard abutted Walter Neimi's back yard. Walter was Mrs Neimi's son. We knew him as Nelo, which was his Finn name. In Level Green Nelo was A
