The adults in this picture are (left to right) Jacob Kivistö, his wife Sophia (Ramström) Kivistö, my grandparents Mary and John Hakanen, Laimi (Lähteenmäki) Hakanen (Mike Hakanen's wife). The child in Jacob's arms is Elisa Kivistö(b.1912,d.1916). The child in Sophia's arms is Jennie Kivistö(b 1913). The children(left to right)are: Alice Kivistö(b 1908), Eshter Hakanen(b 1909), Sulo Hakanen(b 1909), Elin(Helen)Hakanen(b 1904), Waco Hakanen(b 1908), Urho(Roy)Hakanen(b 1907), and Arvo Hakanen(b 1905). Ester, Helen, Roy and Arvo are Mike and Laimi's children. Sulo and Waco's parents are John and Mary. Absent when this picture was taken is Jacob and Sophia's son Kaarlo(b 1901). Subsequent to this photo, Mike and Laimi had one additional child, Aune Mariam(b 1914). John and Mary had another four children, Edith(b 1915), A boy(still born 1916), Ernest(b 1910) and Helen(b 1925). Jacob and Sophia had three additional children, Emil(b 1915), Ina(b circa 1917) and Wilmer(b circa 1920). I believe this picture was taken in the yard near the Kivistö house. They lived on a farm in Jackson twp. Between Nanty-Glo and Vintondale PA. This photo of the Kivistö and Hakanen families was taken circa 1913. The photo is one side of a postcard that my Grandmother sent to her brother and sister in Finland. Pirkko translated the other side of the card as follows:
"Dear brother and pretty sister I am sending you a picture so that you can see a little of us. Here is brother Jaska (Jacob) and his children, Jukka (Karl) is missing, and Laimi and her children, brother's wife. Do you recognize our boys. Our best wishes, it has been a long time. How are Martta and Viljo, they must be big boys now. Do send me a picture. Best regards Maria"
I believe this was written to her sister Sanna, 11 years her senior and her brother Juho, 7 years her senior. The children she is referring to are Joho's children Martta Helena, born in 1901 and Viljo Jaako, born in 1904. Not long before she left for America. Viljo was Leena's grandfater. Leen
