Uncle Bill Salem
This is Bill Salem, Edith's husband. He passed away in 1975 at the young age of 63. He and Edith lived in Johnstown. He was a school teacher there. In the late in 1980's A speaker came to Erie for the Chamber of Commerce. I helped introduce him and when we talked so I could have some of his background, he said he had Uncle Bill as a teacher and he spoke highly of his skills and inspirational behavior. I remember as a kid, he was just beginning teaching. He would bring work books for Dave, Donna and me to do over the week. He would check them on week ends. I hated that! Donna would always "ace" the lessons, and of course I would not do so well. I thought Donna was such a show-off. I think Dave just went along with it and never complained. Uncle Bill seemed to enjoy his weekends in Nanty-Glo and he was one of the poker players I mention somewhere else on this site. I think it was a weekly occurrence on Friday evenings.
