Uncle Ernie WW11 Uniform

Uncle Ernie in his WWII uniform. Uncle Ernie, Uncle Bill Mott and Uncle Bill Salem served from our family in WWII. Ernie went to pharmacy school and then served in New Guinea during the war. Uncle Mott served in the Pacific and Uncle Salem served in Europe. I don't know much about any of their service time. Uncle Salem got a purple heart. I think we were too young to talk to about their experiences. Ernie did tell me that he came back to the United States with the colonel in charge of his unit. He said his name was Colonel Mayo. He told Ernie if he ever needed work he could come to his place in Minnesota anytime and he would have a job. It turned out that was Colonel Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic. Ernie decided to go into the mines.
