Cowboy Wes in Nanty-Glo back yard

This photo was taken in our back yard on Roberts Street. The Rodkey's house is to the left. The house looks as if it has a foundation. When the house was purchased it had no basement. My Dad, with the help of other Finntown men, dug-out (by hand) and constructed a full basement for the house. I 'helped' him. I have learned since that, like the Amish, the Finns had a tradition of gathering together and helping with major projects. The tradition is known as Talko in Finnish.
